Who?
Professors Mahsa and Tim Fischer
Best thing about UNITY Tampere?
"The combination of services that are offered."
When the Fischer family was searching for a temporary home in Tampere for six months, it had to be big enough, furnished, and reliable. UNITY Tampere fulfilled all the criteria and even offered some small luxuries to the busy professor parents.
The Fischer family moved to Finland in the spring, so came just at the right time to see and feel the Finnish nature coming to life.
"We were told that coming to Finland for spring and summer was the right choice, not fall and winter," Tim Fischer says with a laugh. He moved to UNITY Tampere from Germany with his wife, Mahsa, for half a year.
Along with their two children, the Fischers have been able to enjoy not only Finland's summer but also the lush nature of Pyynikki and the proximity to Lake Pyhäjärvi.
"You have many lakes here in Finland, but for us Germans, being close to a lake is something special," Mahsa adds.
Both Mahsa and Tim are professors who came to conduct research at the University of Tampere. Mahsa's field of research is computer science, specifically human-computer interaction, while Tim specializes in electronics. Their children attend the Tampere International School.
"We wanted to find a place that is conveniently located for both school and university, and UNITY met both criteria," Mahsa says.
Tim can't quite remember where he came across UNITY Tampere, but when he saw pictures of the rooms, he wanted to see more. On the UNITY website, they found not only more pictures but also the layout of the Grand Atelier Apartment.
"The room looked suitable for our family of four, and it was important to us that the apartment was furnished," Mahsa says.
Having moved from a city of about the same size, the Fischers immediately felt at home in Tampere, especially since getting around downtown was easy, and their children found plenty of enjoyable activities.
"We are busy with our work and move around a lot. It's convenient that we can have lunch at Aitoleipä, somewhat like at the university cafeteria, and then continue working at the uWork space or the upstairs lounge," Mahsa continues.
"The only regret is that we haven't had time to get to know the other residents, but it's clear that there are opportunities for that here."

In addition to Aitoleipä and uWork, the Fischers are excited about all the other services provided by UNITY Tampere that make life smoother.
"It's great that the reception is always open if you need clean towels or anything else for the apartment."
Mahsa, on the other hand, is enthusiastic about the weekly room cleaning and the short distance to the bus stop for the bus to downtown.
"We've also enjoyed Mad Finn's pizzas often, and Tim gave me a spa visit to Pyynikin Helmi as a birthday present," Mahsa says.
However, the most important thing for the Fischers is the trust they have in UNITY Tampere.
"When you rent an apartment from abroad, you can't always trust that it will live up to its promises or that you'll get the apartment at all. With UNITY, we could trust, and the trust is mutual," Tim concludes.
